Fritillaries, Ice & Roses 11/3/23

Howdy folks,   Frostmas has come and the dahlia plants are melting in the fields.  The butterfly filled fields are filled no more.  The tunnel alarms kept us awake from 4 a.m. on this morning as the inevitable annual kinks need to be worked out of the system.  In fact, one alarm is going off right now as I write this Thursday evening.  I’ll be off shortly to try and sort it out.    We are about to get ready for an overhaul in our propagation house, but have been waiting out the unfolding of nature. Some Passionflower vine took hold in our propagation house and we let it run wild to serve as a host plant for Gulf fritillary...

Farmy Stuff 5/26/23

                              Farmy Stuff Happy Friday y’all!    It’ll be brief this week.  Long day’s got me tired (it’s Thursday night) and I’m re-watching “Growing Floret” Season 1, before I watch the new release of Season 2.  Anyone who likes flower farming enough to read this every week, would love her show.  It’s like going from stick figure farm stories to virtual reality.  It’s beautiful, inspiring, and possibly more importantly, very honest.  So much of the project/business based shows you see are almost like a montage in an 80’s hero movie.  Everything goes smoothly, gets done in a week, and looks seamless and beautiful at the end.  It’s mostly b.s.  Life rarely works like that.  It’s so much more compelling to see the...

The Industry 2/18/22

    We had a wild week getting our first real blooms of the season out to all you lovers and we really appreciate all the enthusiasm for our sustainable flowers grown here in the U.S.  We wish we could get flowers out to everybody, but are pleased to have gotten the early blooms we did. Thankfully, we are seeing more and more signs of life from the tunnels and fields and will be able to send out more abundant beauty as each week carries us out of winter and into spring.  Soon, we’ll be swimming in a sea of flowers that we can send in all directions.
