Prepping for Spring 9/12/25
Posted on
Happy Friday y’all!
The heat is back a bit. At least it’s hot in the greenhouses, with days in the mid 80s. This week we re-skinned a tunnel and started prepping for automated roll-up sides, which will be quite a help in the winter. We’re mowing cover crop, irrigating, fertilizing, and tilling beds in our biggest tunnel, in prep for our biennial steaming so we can get anemones planted next week. Spring starts now for us.

Dahlias are still coming in from the fields in increasing numbers, and the air still greets us with a variety of fragrances. Yesterday I caught a smile off some honeysuckle flowers growing along the fence.

The Farm Store is open Thursdays & Fridays 10a-3p and Saturdays 9a-3p!
The Farm Store
officially opened yesterday and folks are picking up their plants to
start their fall gardens. If you’re looking for broccoli, chard, kale,
or lettuce, you’ve still got a little time to secure some before the Plant Sale
ends, but it’s ending soon. The store itself is mesmerizing. Mandy
has done it again. Long nights pretty much every night for over a week
now, and she’s a little threadbare, but happy to have gotten it all
together. It looks wonderful.

Pick up a freshly cut bunch of dahlias in the Farm Store if you are local!
Come on by this afternoon or Saturday and enjoy a country drive, the charm of the store, and all the cool stuff that Comer offers
on a Saturday morning. Coffee, pastries, antiques, blown-glass,
covered bridge, hiking trails, yoga, toe dip in the river, canoe outing,
farmer’s market, etc….Comer comes alive Saturday mornings, and it's a
lovely place to be. There’s a new building for sale downtown too, a few
doors down from the coffee shop if you know someone with dreams to fulfill.
I’ve gotta get back out in the tunnels, but maybe I’ll see you in Comer tomorrow. Have a great weekend!
